Taking The Ferry From Venice to Burano

The cheapest and most efficient way to get to Burano is to take a ferry from Venice to Burano. Take the 12 on the Vaporetto line from the Venice city center to Burano.

This large ferry runs from Venice’s San Zaccaria stop, which is near St. Mark’s Square. The ferry ride will take 45 minutes and leaves every 20 to 30 minutes throughout the day.

The ferry from Venice to Burano mentioned above will cost 7.5 euros per person for a one-way trip from Venice to Burano. A roundtrip ticket cost 15 euros.

When is The Best Time to Visit Burano

Burano is a great place to visit most of the year but it will be more crowded during the summer months because this is the high tourist season in Venice. Also, Burano is susceptible to flooding from November to January so keep this in mind when planning your trip.

Ideally, visit on a weekday and start early in the morning for fewer crowds.

The Best Things to Do in Burano

1. Visit The Lace Museum in Burano – Museo del Merletto

Burano is not only known for its colorful houses but also for its traditional lace-making. Many local shops will sell traditional lace but if you’d like to learn a little more you can visit Museo del Merletto in Burano.

The Lace Museum (Museo del Merletto) showcases the history of lace production in the region and is located in Galuppi Square. Here, you can explore a collection of intricate lacework, visit the gift shop, learn about the history of lace making, and at times watch live demonstrations.

Visiting the Lace Museum in Burano is certainly a unique and educational experience. Currently, it costs 6 euros for a standard ticket.

2. The Leaning Tower of Burano

Not quite as well-known as the famous Leaning Tower of Pisa, the Leaning Bell Tower of St. Martin’s Church is a popular attraction for visitors in Burano. This leaning tower is one of Burano’s most recognizable landmarks. Visitors can climb to the top of the tower for beautiful views of the vibrant island.

3. Take ~All~ The Photographs

Burano Island is a photographer’s paradise. Don’t forget your camera and make sure to spend time wandering around the island capturing the colorful houses.

4. Relax by The Canals

Take in the peaceful atmosphere of Burano by relaxing near the water at the canals in Burano. You can pick up some gelato and spend some time by the water.

As mentioned above, Burano is a great place to shop for lace. But you will also find all sorts of fun souvenirs — postcards, jewelry, clothing, glassware – you can find it all.

6. Get Lost in The Picturesque Streets

Wander around the charming streets and see where you end up. You’ll find so many vibrant colorful houses and great spots to photograph. One of the most famous streets in Burano is Via Baldassarre Galuppi.

The Best Burano Restaurants

You simply cannot pass up Burano’s delicious seafood while you are here. I’ve listed recommended seafood restaurants below.

  • Al Gatto Nero Da Ruggero
  • Osteria Al Museo Burano
  • Trattoria Al Gatto Nero: A family-owned Michelin-star restaurant known for its seafood and pasta
  • Osteria Al Ponte del Diavolo
  • Trattoria da Romano
  • Trattoria da Prino e Paolo: This is where I ate and it was so delicious. We ate a whole Italian seafood feast, I highly recommend this restaurant for lunch.

And for dessert? Grab some fresh gelato at Dai Fradei. Or try Burano’s dessert  – Bussola. These are Venetian butter cookies from Burano. You can find these at any bakery on Galuppi Street.

  4. E bella Burano! It would be so tempting to try and squeeze Burano and Murano into one day trip, but we think you’re right – stick to Burano to really enjoy it. Of course, we love to linger in the shops and museums, so we would struggle with just four to six hours. 😉 Mille grazie, Syd!

  5. I have been to Venice and Murano but did not manage to get to Burano. Perhaps one day. My favourite part of Venice was just getting lost in the city, so I am sure I would do the same on Burano. It sounds like a delightful place! #WeekendWanderlust
