The Best Beaches in Uluwatu
1. Nyang Nyang Beach
Entrance Fee: No set fee but visitors are asked for a small donation.
Nyang Nyang Beach is a hidden gem near Uluwatu. It has pristine white sand and bright blue water. It’s more secluded than other beaches making it less crowded than many beaches in Uluwatu. This is partly due to the trek to reach the beach.
To access the beach will be a bit of a walk from the parking area. Make sure you’re wearing comfortable shoes. The walk down the gravel road is steep and uneven in parts.
You can also visit the abandoned airplane in Uluwatu on the cliff of Nyang Nyang Beach. It’s an abandoned Boeing plane that was relocated here. There are plans to turn it into a villa in the future.
Many beaches are free to enter in Uluwatu. However, you’ll find that some require a small fee to enter and/or for parking. Make sure you keep small bills on you just in case. 1 USD is equal to about 15,390 IDR.
2. Green Bowl Beach
Entrance Fee: 5,000 IDR
For fewer crowds and a more secluded beach, head to Green Bowl Beach. It’s a hidden gem with white sandy beaches and turquoise waters.
Green Bowl Beach is found at the bottom of a 75-meter-tall cliff. You’ll have to go down over 300 stairs to access the beach, so if you are up for an adventure, Green Bowl Beach is for you.
Green Bowl Beach is named after the green algae-covered rocks that are visible during low tide. It’s a paradise for both surfers and sunbathers.
To enter, you’ll pay a fee of 5,000 IDR which is less than 1 USD. Make sure to bring what you need because there are no beachside facilities here.
3. Suluban Beach
Entrance Fee: No fee
Suluban Beach, also known as Blue Point Beach, is famous for its unique entrance through a cave and its bright blue waters. You’ll walk down a set of stairs and through the cave to reach the sandy beach.
It’s a great spot in Uluwatu for surfers and beach lovers. Here you’ll find scenic views, cliffside cafes and local eateries, occasional events, and the best photo opportunities.
This is one of the best places to view the sunset over the Indian Ocean. Many people will visit in the late afternoon to enjoy the sunset.
Due to its secluded location, this beach remains less crowded compared to others in the area. Suluban Beach is well worth a spot on the list of the best beaches in Uluwatu.
4. Nunggalan Beach
Entrance Fee: No fee
Nunggalan Beach is known for its white sand and graffiti-covered shipwreck. It’s also pretty close to Nyang Nyang Beach, you could easily walk from one to the other.
You’ll notice that there are fewer tourists here because it’s more difficult to access. To reach Nunggalan Beach, you’ll have to walk down a pretty rocky path.
If you are in for a bit of an adventure, Nunggalan Beach is well worth it and is certainly one of the best beaches in Uluwatu. And what’s better than a beach with no crowds?
Nunggalan Beach is just about a mile from Nyang Nyang Beach. You can walk along the sand from one to the other if you plan to visit both.
5. Jimbaran Beach
Entrance Fee: No fee
Jimbaran Beach is a picturesque beach known for its long stretch of golden sand and calm waters. You’ll find a laid-back atmosphere making it a popular beach for both tourists and locals.
Along the beach, you’ll see numerous seafood restaurants where you can dine directly on the sand. Historically, Jimbaran was a traditional fishing village – eating seafood here is a must!
Jimbaran Beach is also within walking distance of many hotels and villas making it more popular for tourists to visit.

Locally known as Labuan Sait Beach, this beach is one of Bali’s most renowned surf spots and is also famous for being featured in the movie, “Eat, Prey, Love.”
It’s located just 10 minutes north of Uluwatu on the Bukit Peninsula with white sandy beaches and amazing surf breaks. You’ll find turquoise waters and the most amazing rock formations. Padang Padang Beach is the perfect place to soak up the sun on the white sandy coastline.
7. Bingin Beach

Bingin Beach is another one of the best beaches in Uluwatu located on the Bukit Peninsula. You’ll find incredible views, great surfing conditions, and a laid-back atmosphere with several cafes and accommodations.
To reach this beach, you go down many stairs with amazing views of the Indian Ocean along the way. Bingin Beach does tend to get busy, so I suggest visiting early in the day. This is a great spot for avid surfers but not for those just starting. The waves can be rough.
8. Dreamland Beach
Entrance Fee: 15,000 IDR
Known for its wide stretch of golden sand and amazing surf breaks. Dreamland Beach is a nice relaxing beach to spend the afternoon at.
It’s very accessible and well developed making it perfect for those seeking convenience. There are various beach clubs and cafes along the beach to relax at or enjoy a meal.
At Dreamland Beach you’ll find calmer waters, an ideal spot for swimming and those learning to surf. I do suggest checking the conditions before you visit because the waves can get rough.

Balagan Beach is famous for its iconic viewpoint. There are two main viewpoints here, the most popular is a small edge that overlooks the sandy beach and the turquoise blue water.
The second viewpoint is a large platform covered in vines. This viewpoint is located a little further down the beach. Here, you have the perfect view of the scenic coastline.
It’s best to visit earlier in the day because during sunset there will typically be wedding photographers working here at this viewpoint.

Thomas Beach is more secluded than many listed in this article making it one of the best beaches in Uluwatu to visit if you are looking to avoid the crowds. It’s nestled between Padang Padang Beach and Suluban Beach and is truly a slice of paradise.
It’s the perfect place for a peaceful beach walk surrounded by dramatic stone boulders and turquoise water.
Although there is no entrance fee to access the beach, there are sunbeds and umbrellas available for rent.
Uluwatu FAQs
When is The Best Time to Visit Bali?
Bali’s dry season is between April and October, typically the best time to visit to enjoy dry weather. The months of April, May, September, and October are great months to find reduced rates and fewer people aka less crowded beaches and roads. And the traffic in Bali is no joke. It’s insane.
I visited in July which is considered one of the best times to visit Bali in terms of weather but it ended up monsoon-ing in Uluwatu basically during our entire time here. Honestly, there’s not much to do in Uluwatu if it’s storming so pray for good weather when you visit!
How to Get to Uluwatu
Uluwatu is located about 45 minutes from Denpasar Internal Airport (DPS). You can book a Grab or hire a driver. Contact your accommodation to set you up with airport transportation. They can usually provide this and you’ll have someone waiting for you with your name on a sign.
Traffic in Bali is insane at times. Keep this in mind if you plan on visiting nearby cities.

How to Get Around Uluwatu
The easiest and most efficient way to get around Uluwatu is to rent a motor scooter. However, if you are not comfortable with your scooter-driving abilities (like me) use Grab, Gojek, or a private driver to get around.
Both Grab and Gojek are essentially like Uber in Western countries. This is how I got around Bali most of the time. If you want a day full of activities, I suggest hiring a private driver. This will be most efficient and hiring a driver for the day in Bali is affordable.
