Seville, Spain is a gem of a city. It’s located in the heart of the Andalusia region in southern Spain known for its rich culture, beautiful architecture, flamenco dancing, and exquisite tapas culture. 

I have to say, after visiting Madrid, Granada, and Barcelona – Seville, may just be my favorite city in Spain. There is no shortage of things to do and captivating architecture to see.

How to get to Seville

If you are flying into Seville, you’ll fly into Seville Airport (SVQ). However, I know many travelers are visiting various cities in the South of Spain, thus, you may be traveling via train, car, or bus. 

If you are traveling by train, the main train station in the city is the Seville-Santa Justa railway station. I love using Omio, Trainline, and Flixbus for booking trains and buses around Europe.

Top 10 Things to Do in Seville, Spain 

1. Wander through Plaza de España 

You can’t miss Plaza de España in Seville. This is one of Seville’s most iconic landmarks. Plaza de España is, obviously, a plaza but what makes it special is its unique blend of Moorish Revival and Renaissance Revival architectural styles. 

The plaza was built for the Ibero-American Exposition of 1929 which was an event that celebrated the cultural ties between Spain and Latin Countries. Now, the plaza is one of the top visited places in Seville where you’ll find elaborate tile work, stunning bridges, and a magical fountain. 

The intricate tile work and vibrant colors in the plaza make it such a beautiful place to photograph. Many movies have been filmed here including a few scenes from Star Wars! 

Pro-tip: I suggest visiting in the morning to avoid the crowds. I arrived at around 10 AM and it wasn’t too busy yet.  

2. Visit The Royal Alcázar of Seville 

A trip to Seville isn’t complete without a tour of the Royal Alcázar of Seville. This royal palace is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is the oldest royal palace in Europe that is still in use today. Isn’t that crazy?! 

The Alcázar was formerly the site of the Islamic-era citadel of the city and then was transformed into a larger palace complex by the Abbadid dynasty. The palace is now known for its Mudéjar architecture, historical significance, and breathtaking gardens. And did you know that scenes from Game of Thrones were shot here?

I absolutely loved learning about the Royal Alcázar’s fascinating history on my guided tour. Because there is so much to see and learn about here, I suggest booking a guided tour. 

Book these tickets well in advance, especially if you are visiting during peak tourist season. If you can, book your tour early in the morning because it does get hot (especially during the summer) and crowded.

3. Seville Cathedral & La Giralda 

The Seville Cathedral is the largest Gothic cathedral in the world. It’s a beautiful work of art located right in the center of the city. While you’re here, don’t miss climbing La Giralda, the bell tower of Seville Cathedral. 

This cathedral is rich in history, it holds the Tomb of Christopher Columbus. So if you are a history fanatic I suggest visiting. Currently, ticket prices to enter the church and climb the bell tower are €9.

4. Setas de Seville

Setas de Seville, which literally translates to “Mushrooms of Seville,” is a striking structure in La Encarnación Square in Seville. It’s technically the largest wooden structure in the world and you can purchase tickets to walk along the top for panoramic views of Seville. 

General admission tickets cost €15 and you can enter between 9:30 AM and midnight. 

5. Watch a Flamenco Show 

Andalusia is the birthplace of Flamenco, so Seville is the best place to experience this art form. Flamenco is a performance full of emotion, history, and tradition. I think that experiencing a Flamenco show is one of the best things to do in Seville Spain. 

I went to Flamenco La Cantaora and I loved this performance because it felt authentic and intimate. It was a small restaurant setting and everyone had a great view of the show. The ticket came with a glass of sangria and you can order dinner and tapas while you watch the show.

6. Torre del Oro 

Torre del Oro, or “Tower of Gold”, is a 13th-century military watchtower. It’s a significant landmark in the city located near the Guadalquivir River. The tower used to be one of the Moorish medieval city wall towers. 

7. Maria Luisa Park 

Plaza de España is located in Maria Luisa Park, so this is an easy spot to visit after wandering around the plaza. Maria Luisa Park is a massive green space in the city. It makes for a nice break from busy downtown Seville.

The park is completely free to visit and the early morning hours and late afternoons are wonderful. It’s such a good place to bring a book, a picnic, or simply do some people-watching.  

8. Barrio Santa Cruz

Another one of the best things to do in Seville Spain is to visit the charming neighborhood of Santa Cruz. This area was once Seville’s Jewish Quarter and is now a historic and picturesque neighborhood to visit in Seville. 

Santa Cruz is a wonderful place to find authentic tapas bars, beautiful plazas, and historical landmarks such as the Church of Santa María la Blanca and the Alley of the Crosses. 

9. Museum of Fine Arts of Seville 

If you are an art enthusiast, check out the Museum of Fine Arts of Seville. This museum has an extensive collection of Spanish paintings from the Middle Ages to the 20th century. Tickets cost €1.50 for visitors and you can book a guided tour from €14. 

10. Wander around the Triana District 

Triana is Seville’s colorful Old Quarter. It was originally a fisherman’s area and It’s located on the other side of the river. There are plenty of restaurants, bars, and vibrant streets to explore. 

The Triana Bridge connects the old town to the Triana neighborhood. You’ll find a lot of Flamenco in Triana as well as ceramic workshops and pottery shops. The famous Triana Market is also located here where you can get a taste of local cuisine – fresh produce, seafood, and other Andalusian specialties. 

Seville has an amazing shopping scene. Spend an afternoon popping into the vintage shops, and visiting local boutiques. I found the cutest Korean beauty store called, MiiN Korean Cosmetics. I was on a hunt for a mask after a long travel day and they had so many fun goodies here!

Is Seville worth visiting? 

100% yes! Seville is one of my favorite cities in Spain and it’s honestly one of the most beloved in the world by many. Between its food, culture, and architecture – there is something in Seville for everyone to enjoy!

Best time to visit Seville Spain

The best time to visit Seville is from August to October and from December to January. This is a good time to visit to avoid the scorching heat and busy summer crowds. 

I visited in early September and it was absolutely wonderful. It wasn’t too hot and there weren’t many tourists at all. This was the best time to visit Spain in my opinion. Although, you’ll definitely have a great time no matter what time of year you plan to visit Seville.   

Best Paella in Seville Spain 

I loved Doña Encarna. However, there are plenty of amazing places to find delicious paella in Seville. I don’t think you can go wrong no matter where you choose. 

What is Seville, Spain best known for? 

Seville is best known for its tapas culture, beautiful architecture (especially the Alcazer), and flamenco dancing.

Is 3 days enough in Seville?

Yes, 3 days is enough time to get a good feel for Seville. With 3 days in Seville, you can see all the highlights, try lots of delicious foods, catch a flamenco show, and take in the beauty of this city.

Where to Eat in Seville Spain

I can’t finish this article without touching on the food scene in Seville! Seville is known for its rich tapas culture – so don’t leave the city without trying some delicious tapas. The oldest tapas bar is actually located in Seville, it’s called El Rinconcillo and I suggest visiting if you have time.
